2008 UMP 4-Cylinder Rules

 

1) Any 4-cylinder car with a maximum wheelbase of 104" and a complete stock body, frame and suspension.  NO 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive cars

2) No bracing anywhere on car.  Dash, steering, and pedals must remain stock for that make and model.

3) Car horn must work!!!

4) If it is under the hood from the factory - LEAVE IT THERE!  Insulation under the hood and trunk latches must be removed for fire prevention.  X bracing under the hood must be removed.  Pin type hood and trunk latches must be used.

5) Stock carburetor/fuel injection system for that make and model.  NO Turbo Chargers.  Performance air filters may be used; however they must be completely concealed in the stock filter cover.  Stock induction only.

6) Exhaust must come off engine and exit under the car running back at least behind the rear of the front seat.

7) Stock transmission and rear end (or front end) for that make and model.

8) Battery must remain in stock location, or be placed in the driver's compartment or trunk contained in a plastic box securely mounted to the frame or floor of the vehicle.

9) Wheels must be stock.  OEM for make and model.  Steel wheels are recommended.  Wheel studs must be at least flush without side of lug nuts.  Broken studs and missing lug nuts are prohibited.  No wheel spacers, no pressure bleeders.  Minimum of 30 (thirty) pounds of air pressure in all four tires.  NO low profile tires.  Only street legal DOT passenger tires all the same size - 60 (sixty-five) series or higher.

10) Racing fuel (octane 104) may be used!  Fuel Tank can remain in stock location or a fuel cell or six gallon steel boat tank securely mounted as far forward in trunk as possible, steel fire wall to be placed between driver and fuel tank.  Fuel lines in driver compartment must be run in steel conduit.  Fuel tanks to be mounted with two 1" x 1/8" steel straps.  No more than 4 gallons of gas in tank per run.  Stock gas tank ahead of rear axle will be allowed.  Stock gas tanks behind rear axle prohibited.

11) Doors are to be welded or bolted shut.  One fence post rub rail securely mounted on both sides will be allowed (6" behind the front wheel to 6" ahead of the rear wheel.

12) An approved complete racing fire suit is required.

13) Full face approved helmets, 5-point safety racing belts, window nets, Neck braces are mandatory.  Purpose built racing seat made of aluminum and installed in a manner acceptable to officials is required.

14) All glass must be removed.  Driver protection bars (minimum of 4 bars - 3/8" in diameter) and mud screen must be installed in front of the driver.

15) At least 3 wheel brakes must be operable.

16) Cars must start under their own power.

17) Drivers 14-18 years of age may be allowed to compete with a parental permission form signed.  ALL drivers must sign waiver at pit entry.

18) Car numbers must be legible, recommended 20" tall, 3" thick with contrasting colors to body, they must be neatly applied to both right and left front doors and on roof left side front corner.  Numbers like 47X or B4 or XI5 will be allowed.  Offensive graphics or slogans are not permitted.  All competitors agree to accept the official's decision on these matters.

19) NO added ballast (weight) of any kind to the car.

ROLL CAGE SPECIFICATIONS - The vertical main hoop must be welded either to the left and right rocker panels and floor pan OR a minimum 4" x 4" x 1/4" steel plate at the bottom of each leg of the vertical main hoop.

A second 4" x 4" x 1/4" steel plate must be located under the floor pan and be connected to the main hoop plate B with a minimum of four 3/8" diameter steel bolts.  The main hoop must be located behind the driver and have a horizontal bar at the midpoint and bottom parallel to the floor pan.  The main hoop must also be diagonally braced.

All bars in the main hoop bar must be round steel tubing no less than 1 1/2" in diameter (1 3/4" recommended) and have a minimum wall thickness of 0.095".  DOM tubing is recommended.  Black pipe, exhaust tubing, formed pipe, etc. is prohibited.

The top hoop must attach to the main hoop and to the left and right front post and be diagonally braced.  The left and right front posts must be welded either to the rocker panels and floor pan or minimum 4" x 4" x 1/4" steel plate at the bottom of each post leg.

A second 4" x 4" x 1/4" steel plate must be located under the floor pan and be connected to each post leg by a minimum of four 3/8" diameter steel bolts.  The rocker panel where the main hoop and the left and right front posts attach must be reinforced with a minimum of 1/4" steel plate.  The left and right front post must be connected by a horizontal "dash" bar.  The top hoop, the left and right front posts and the "dash" bar must be round steel tubing no less than 1 1/2" in diameter (1 3/4" diameter is recommended) and have a minimum wall thickness of 0.095".  "A" pillar supports are allowed.

The driver's side front post must be connected to the vertical main hoop by three or more equally spaced horizontal bars.  They must be flush with the outer door skin.  The door bars must be connected by two or more equally spaced vertical braces.

A foot protector bar is allowed and recommended.  All driver side door bars and braces must be round steel tubing of no less than 1 1/2" (1 3/4" recommended) and have a minimum wall thickness of 0.095".

The seat frame must attach to the lower main hoop horizontal and bottom driver's door bar.  The seat frame must have a minimum wall thickness of 0.095".

The passenger side must be equipped with a minimum of three door bars.  Two of the bars may be "X" design.  Horizontal bars must be equally spaced and connected by two or more equally spaced vertical braces.  All passenger side door bars and braces may be round steel tubing no less than 1 1/2" in diameter (1 3/4" recommended) and have a minimum wall thickness of 0.083".

The main hoop must be connected to the back floor pan by a minimum of two rear support bars.  The rear support bars must be welded either to the floor pan or a minimum 4" x 4" x 1/4" steel plate at the bottom of each support bar.  A second 4" x 4" x 1/4" steel plate must be located under the floor pan and be connected to the support bar by a minimum of four 3/8" diameter steel bolts.  The bars must be round steel tubing no less than 1 1/2" in diameter (1 3/4" recommended) and have a minimum wall thickness of 0.095".

All roll bars exposed to the driver must be padded.  The left side door bars must be padded.

20. All vehicles must have securely installed a fire extinguisher in reach of driver.

21. Compression may not exceed 210 lbs.

22. 1 bar brace for radiator is allowed

Fire suits of a flame retardant nature required.  NO KART SUITS OR FLAME RETARDANT COVERALLS.  Two piece fire suits allowed.  Neck braces are mandatory, Fire retardant gloves and shoes are recommended.  Helmets are required and must be Snell SA90, SA95, or SA2000.  Helmet must be worn at all times car is on the track and must accompany vehicle at time of inspection.  No M class helmets.  Roll bar padding required in driver compartment.  Fire retardant padding recommended.  Window net mandatory (no string type nets).
